festa of cuties
The little rocker wasn't the only cutie we spied at the Tokyo Design Festa.
Shotaro and Ikumi of Chapter are quite the Design Festa regulars always bringing their fashion flair, whimsical costume designs and smiles to the event. We were sure to grab a snapshot of the kawaii couple and stop for a quick chat. Watch out for their new website coming soon... And fingers crossed, if the planets align as they should we really hope to have some Chapter costumes on TOKYOMADE in the near future.
This colorful booth set up by Rieko of BLITZ kiss fame kept us coming back for more. We were slightly mesmerized by her quirky sense of style and super super esque acrylic accessories (which we are also hoping to bring to you really soon!)
And as always Machie, MACBAG designer and creator extraordinaire was there with her gorgeous smile and an ever growing range of African fabric bags. Oh and guess what?? We got to keep our favs and we will be sharing them with you any moment now. They are stunning, and it is all I can do to stop myself from buying them ALL! Machie is one of my favorite designers and I carry her creations around with me everyday! So very happy to have more in stock!

rockin the big site
There is never a dull moment at Tokyo Design Festa. We had a wild time as always this weekend out at Toyko Big Site...inspiring, fulfilling and exhausting! Two days jam packed with the hottest Japanese and international creators, exhibitors and rock stars!
Check out this rockabilly rebel's fashion label Monsters Cereal. He kept us highly entertained as we kept Cometman company in his popular and sleek Design Festa booth.
So many pics and stories to go with them...coming soon
quick wit
Jesus-freak: ... And let it be known that if you disobey the holy book and God's laws, you are eternally damned.
Queer: So, what happens to me if I'm gay?
Jesus-freak: You're going to Hell in a hand basket!
Queer: Well, that hand basket better be fucking Prada, bitch!
I stole/copied/borrowed this from OinNY...it was too good not to share!

Paper and Skin
From the moment the stunning Akiko graced the stage the pencils were out and ready, the sketchers up and down head nob began and things got off to a serious start.
As the room started to heat up, temperatures rose and throats became dry the obligatory cool down drinks were beginning to flow. Our model's kimono started to slip, pages were being flipped and The Pink Cow was beginning to overflow with sketchy enthusiasts.
As Akiko went off to powder her nose and down some hard earned water the comps were held and TOKYOMADE prize packs given. We were honored to have Tokyo designer Kens Scratch in the house. He kindly offered up some of his fabulous accessory pieces as much sort after prizes.
Like all luscious things it was over far to quickly and now we are left waiting oh so eagerly for the next edition of Dr Sketchy's Anti-Art School, Tokyo > June 27!

This picture has nothing really to do with what I wanted to post about but before I get onto what I am really going to say I have to pay my respects to CUTiE mag on it's 20th anniversary. I always manage to find something I must have (grey holter vest from Ehyphen) and it is ALWAYS sold out by the time I get to the shop...possibly a good thing.
Anyway we are moving! Not exactly to the country but we will no longer live in Shinjuku... TBC

Goddess of Beauty and Love
I can smell the distinct wiff of neo-burlesque in the air. Maybe it is this Tokyo heat? Perhaps it is the very luscious Dita Von Teese on the cover of the latest Peach John catalogue? Or maybe it is all the recent talk of a Tokyo Dr. Sketchy's that is getting things cooking?? Whatever it is; things are definitely shaping up for a great deal of lampoonery in the not too distant future...I can feel it brewing - stay tuned!
I know! I know! Venus De Milo was probably not a part of the burlesque scene back in ancient Greece but she is/was the goddess of beaty and love!
